EVM Ghotala now goes in Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Election Commission of India in a plea seeking probe into alleged tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the recently concluded polls in five states.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar, justices D.Y.Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul was hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate M.L.Sharma.

“The Central Bureau of Investigation must register a case and investigate,” Sharma argued.

The plea comes a week after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati alleged that EVM tampering was the reason for the BSP’s dismal performance. The allegations were echoed by Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal.

“We suspect that 20-25% of AAP votes may have been transferred to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition through EVM tampering,” he had said.

Native People's Party has already asked for reelections in five states where this EVM Ghotala has taken place .
